Guild Saturdays

Guild Saturdays is like a small mini-gaming convention, starting at around noon in Carver 174. The Guild hosts a variety of games in this room and is happy to point out other activities, such as the weekly one-shots.

Feel free to join us (even just intermittently) and bring a game or join one – we’re all friendly! If you don’t know how to play a given game, Guild members will be happy to teach you.

What happened to AMESFA?

Ames Science Fiction and Fantasy (AMESFA) was formed in the mid-90s as an alternative organization to the Guild for those interested in SciFi/Fantasy, roleplaying, and such.  As of Spring semester 2008, AMESFA was disbanded as a club and merged with the Guild. We encourage all members of AMESFA to join the Guild and all efforts possible will be made to keep up the things that AMESFA started.

Specifically, AMESFA Monday will become Guild Monday but otherwise retain the same format. CyCon will be redesigned to work in the context of the Guild and Guildfest.

Guild History

In 1974, a group of about twenty individuals created at Iowa State University a club called the Conflict Simulation Association, which was unofficially known as the ISU Gamers. December 1979 saw this organization’s name modified to the Iowa State University Simulation Association. During the summer of 1987, at the suggestion of the venerable (and now unfortunately late) Standing Bear, the name was changed to its present one: The Iowa State University Guild of Wargamers and Roleplayers. From its beginning, the Guild has provided a meeting place for everyone in central Iowa who is interested in any aspect of gaming or roleplaying. As a result, while the core of the membership belongs to the Iowa State University community, the Guild encourages and welcomes the general public to join it and share in its activities.
